A realistic, contemporary novel for teens from a biblical worldview

Twelve-year-old Addie Brown wants to fit in. But ever since she and her dad moved from small town America to bustling London, life is as bumpy as the Tube she rides to school. Addie’s cranky neighbour tells her off but then invites her to tea! It seems as if Addie’s best friend in America has already forgotten all about her. Worst of all, Addie’s dad doesn’t seem any happier than before, even though moving across the pond was his crazy idea.

But the biggest mystery Addie encounters is the lady in the green hat. Who is she? And why does she appear on the train when Addie is missing home – and her mom – the most?

Why you'll love The Girl on the Tube by Rachel Allord:

  1. Fiction from a Biblical worldview – the adventure springs from the author's belief in Christ
  2. Explores the cross-cultural experience - Addie navigates a big move from the US to the UK
  3. The first in a series - There's an entire relatable coming-of-age world to explore

A promising start to a fun series!

I think young girls will connect with the main character and enjoy her story. Tender, heartfelt moments abound alongside an enjoyable mystery in an engaging London setting. The mystery of the woman in the green hat is intriguing and promises to be a continuing thread in the series. If you’re looking for wholesome fiction your middle grade reader will love, give these books a try.

A great little novel for young teens!

I really enjoyed reading this novel as an adult, and think it's ideal for young teens. Addie Brown is a relatable character who struggles with situations many teens will connect with, whether they've moved from a different country like Addie or not. While exploring big emotions, Rachel Allord keeps the story readable, warm and often humorous. It's lovely to be able to trust that the story (and its sequels) come from a Christian worldview. Definitely one I'll be recommending to my daughter when she hits her teens!
