“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” is surely one of the most startling, challenging, and comforting sentences ever uttered. Paul's epistle to the Philippians plumbs the depths of what it means to live and die in Christ. Here we meet Paul in prison, yet joyful in all circumstances and grateful that God is at work, achieving his purposes.

The EP Study Commentary series is designed for ministers, theologians and serious students of the Bible. With John D. Currid as the series editor, EPSCs balance biblical scholarism with straightforward application, making them the ideal companion for pastors and Bible teachers.

Peter Barnes has served in the Presbyterian Bible College in Vanuatu; the Nambucca River in northern New South Wales; and at Revesby in south-west Sydney. He has a doctorate in Church History, and has taught several history courses. In addition, he has authored many books, including Galatians in the EP Study Commentary series.
