Michael Reeves (PhD, King’s College, London) is President of Union, leading its Mission, Publishing, Research and School ministries. He was former Head of Theology for UCCF and associate minister at All Souls Church, Langham Place, London. He teaches regularly worldwide and is the author of numerous books including Delighting in the Trinity, Right with God, and Authentic Ministry.

Doctrinally Tight and Pastorally Warm

Right with God was the Michael Reeves book that finally fully clicked for me. I somewhat appreciated his other books, but this one felt more grounded, focused, and doctrinally tight while still being deeply warm and pastoral. What stood out most was how Reeves connected assurance, justification, and the love of God in a way that felt both theologically precise and personally comforting. He writes beautifully without losing clarity. The book never felt sentimental or vague; its warmth came from solid doctrine rather than emotionalism. One passage especially stayed with me: “The simple fact is you will not love God unless you know He loves you first. It is only when you see how merciful God is and how He deals with you according to His kindness and not your performance that your heart rests in Him.” I found that both intellectually satisfying and spiritually comforting.
