A Woman Through and Through

In a culture that can belittle womanhood on the one hand - making it irrelevant - and glorify it on the other - making it everything - it's hard to know what it really means to be a woman. But when we understand womanhood through the lens of Scripture, we see that we need a bigger category for what God has called "woman."

This book breathes fresh air into our womanhood, reminding us what life in Christ -as a woman - looks like. When we see that we are women in all we do, we can be at peace with how God has created us, recognizing womanhood as an essential part of Christ's mission and work.

A Challenging Take on Biblical Womanhood, but Lacking Nuance

Abigail Dodds offers a thoughtful reflection on Christian womanhood that challenges modern views of empowerment, encouraging women to live fully as followers of Christ. She addresses womanhood as a whole—mind, body, and soul—offering a biblical view that rejects both narrow and individualistic conceptions of womanhood. That said, while the book raises some important points, I found it lacking in nuance. Many of Dodds' generalisations about different seasons of life—marriage, singleness, motherhood, etc.—felt a bit too broad, especially in areas outside her own experience. While the message is valuable, I was hoping for a deeper, more individualised exploration of women’s roles that acknowledged the diversity of women’s lives. Overall, while the book presents solid biblical truths, it feels somewhat limited by a conservative cultural lens that doesn’t fully embrace the complexity of women’s experiences. The dry tone and lack of deeper nuance made it hard for me to engage fully, even though the message itself is timely and thought-provoking.
